sitting up
Adler is now holding her head up very well. in an effort to keep her off the back of her head...no helmet for her, we are trying to find something else she can do during her waking hours. so we have tried putting her in the bumbo so she can sit up. so far she can do it for a few mins before she gets annoyed and starts fussing. which is longer than she can do tummy time.

ugh...count down is on
mommy has to go back to work on January 2nd. i am not looking forward to it. it will be hard to be away from my girls after having almost 8 weeks home with them. I am almost exclusively breastfeeding so i will have to lug all the pumping equipment with me to and from work to keep up my supply and make sure Adler has plenty of food. I did pump the first few days when i was totally engorged so we do a back up supply in the freezer so there is no way my baby will go hungry. i just hate pumping as it is 20 mins of sitting still and being tethered to the machine then another 5-10 minute clean up before you can be back to normal and carry on with the day. i do have a harness so i am hands free but it is still not a fun way to spend 30 mins of your day especially when you have to do it every 3 hours. UGH, UGH, UGH!!!!

poor daddy
mommy and grandma went out to see a Broadway show last night and left daddy and grandpa home with the girls. it is the middle of the week so daddy has to get up and go to work. unfortunately, Adler does not realize this and she did not go to sleep at a decent hour for daddy. she was still up when mommy got home. mommy got the easy detail a quick feed and burp and Adler was asleep for a good five hours.

going, going, almost gone
Adler's acne and cradle cap are almost gone. so she is looking more 'normal' baby like that along with filling out she is starting to look like a magazine cover baby...wonder if Gerber is looking for a new model?!?!?

wakey-wakey
Adler is spending more time awake these days. this is great as we all get to spend more time with her. the bad thing is she does not really do anything so it is hard to entertain a baby who really cant do anything. she is spoiled though in that she likes to be held. this will only be a problem after grandma and grandpa leave and mommy goes back to work and daddy is on his own. lucky that mam-maw and pap-paw will show up in about two weeks and will be here for a while so there will be two more sets of arms to hold her and continue to spoil her.

Merry Christmas
It is Adler's 1st Christmas and completely uneventful. She slept through most of the unwrapping events. She only got a few presents that she did not even get to open. she did get "first Christmas" jammies but managed to pee on them 3 times mommy kept having to hand wash them so we could get a wide awake Adler for her 6 week picture post.

birthstones
I lucked out and have daughters with two of the most beautiful birth stones. Rigby's is the best a diamond (what girl does not love diamonds??) Adler's is citrine or what i think looks like a yellow diamond. I have been looking for a yellow diamond cocktail ring for a few years now, so yet again i don't think it is coincidence that god bless me with Miss Adler Nicole.

rub a dub
i think that i might have found the key to happy bath time for Adler. yet again it is almost the exact opposite of her sister. Adler seems to like a warm to hot bath. we have had three in a row with no fussing so i am sticking to keeping it hot for now and enjoying spending the time not having to rush to get her in and out because she is screaming bloody murder.

wonderful moment
Adler was on the floor fussing a few minutes ago and the wonderful big sister that Rigby is becoming went and got her passy and shoved it in her mouth and held it there. it was a little rough but her intentions were good. every time that the passy would fall out Rigby would pick it up and shove it back in and hold it for Adler. these are the moments that melt my heart. omg...Rigby just went in and stole the blanket off Adler's bed and brought it out to cover her up. she is really trying to get Adler to stop fussing (while mommy finishes this blog entry.) i love the sisterly love Rigby is showing to Adler.

head and shoulders
Adler now has cradel cap as well has her hair falling out. she has big huge flakes of skin on her head. we have taken a soft brush to flake off, which looks like it is snowing there are so many flakes. so it takes a little extra lotion to make it not so noticable but it will still be a few days before it is all gone. ugh!!

falling out
Adler's hair is slowly receding. Her hair line is now back to about the middle of her head. she was not born with much to start with and now with it falling out she is going to be nothing but peach fuzz soon. Yet another way her and Rigby differ. Rigby was born with a full head of hair that never fell out and has grown down past the middle of her back now. my girls are going to be TOTAL oppoisits.

tummy time
Adler really is not a fan of tummy time. she fusses almost the entire time or just gives up and goes to sleep. this is hard because she is spending more time awake these days but not sure what more to do with her as we know better than to leave her in a chair, or swing. no helmets for this baby. we don't even have a chair for her, just for the reason we don't want to over use it. we do have a swing i try to only put her in it sparingly. we do use it for meals though, because she is almost always awake at dinner time but it is too hard to hold a baby and eat dinner for mommy.

one month
Miss Adler is one month old today. she still is so very small but i can tell she is growing and putting on weight. my favorite part is her cheeks are filling out and getting to be really chunky, and oh so kissable.

6+
we got six plus hours of sleep last night. it was wonderful except for the fact that time ran out at 2:30am and after that she did not want to go back to sleep. ugh. she was not screaming and crying just fussy enough that mommy could not go back to sleep. so mommy is feeling a little ran down today, as Adler is in the swing dozing away.

crappy day
hopefully Adler will be less fussy and sleep more regularly today. She had three giant poops yesterday spread out thoughout the day. i am sure that was the main reason for her discomfort and therfore almost constant fussiness. i know this is not the reason for her fussiness on a daily basis, i think she just likes to be held and cuddled not left in bed or on the tummy mat. but it cant hurt to get the extra 5 lbs of poop out. ;)

night time sleeper
i am having a increasingly hard time to get Adler down to sleep at reasonable hour (9p/10p.) the trade off is that she is sleeping 4-5 hours in a row waking up feeding and going back to sleep. anywhere from 5a/6a she wakes for another feeding and that time of day she does not go directly back to sleep no matter how much mommy pleads with her, so mommy can get an extra hour or two.

bath time
yet another way that Adler and Rigby are diffrent. Rigby loves bath time. Adler on the other hand seems to hate it 95% of the time. it sounds like i am commiting violent acts against her when i am washing her down nightly. ugh. it is so hard on me as i know she needs to be clean but hearing her scream like that makes my heart ache.

another week older
Adler is another week older. we are settling into a semi-schedule. the bad part is that Adler seems to either be sleeping or fussing. she is awake more hours of the day but most of that time she is crying. she is not technically colic, because that is defined as 3 hours of constant crying. thankfully we are not to that point, her fussing is not that long of intervals. we are going off what the doctor defines as the "Sears" method of child rearing. I have heard of him, but did not read his book. basically it is defined as letting the child set the schedule and feed when she is hungry. Not the "Spock" method of setting a firm 2-3 hour feeding schedule.

red birthmark
Adler does have a birth mark. the thing is that not many people are ever going to see it. currently it is a little bit bigger than a dime and is located directly on the back of her head. so unless she walks around with her head shaved when she is older no one will know. i prefer this to being on her face or arm where she could later in life become self conscious of it.
p.s. i have since been able to start wearing my wedding ring again. YEA!!! feels weird though, since i went so long with out wearing it at all.

explosion
last night we went out for a nice dinner. i changed Adler's panty that was full of both pee and poop. we get to the restaurant that is a mile or so away. we get there and order drinks and Adler gets super fussy. i go to pick her up and notice that she has poop all over her outfit. i first thought that i missed it when i changed her at home. after more inspection noticed that she had filled her new panty and it had gone all the way up her back and out the leg holes. it was a crazy mess. the restaurant that we were at did not have a changing table so i had to take a crying Adler outside to lift the tailgate and strip her down, wipe her down, then re-panty and dress her. after this crisis averted Adler decided she was hungry so i had to attempt for the first time public breastfeeding. thankfully we were sat in a corner so limited exposure. i did have a mommy cover, but as this is the first time so needed a little extra help. it was a very eventful meal not really in the "good" way.

2 week appointment
Adler had her two week follow appointment with the doctor today. she weighed 9lbs 4oz and measured 21 1/2 inches long. so gained almost a pound and grew an inch. doctor said she looks good and that we don't have to return till her two month appointment, we can skip the one month appointment unless we need something. so thumbs up all around Adler is growing and developing the way she needs too.
monkey toes
Adler's feet are something else. from about the minute she came out she has had what daddy and i have dubbed "monkey toes." they are extremely long toes that she can spread very far apart. since she can spread them so far apart this trait is obviously not from her daddy since daddy can barley get a credit card between his toes when he tries to spread his toes. the toes must come from mommies side of the family, i am thinking uncle Cole might be the closest comparison. we will just have to wait and see if she grows into these toes?!?!?!

coincidence?
coincidence? i think not. the first week alone on tv we heard or saw the name Adler in many of our programs. it has been two characters last names and the name of a hotel in a show. before this i have never noticed the name so prevalently used, although i knew it was on our "list." Now that she is out and we have announced to the world our wonderful baby girls name now it is the cool name and everyone is using it. :)

proactive
well i think that Adler and mommy can pose for the BEFORE picture in a Proactive commercial. unfortunately Adler has dozens of white heads all over her cheeks and chin. mommy has the deep cysts that are red, inflamed, and painful. both types are hormone induced and there is nothing either of us can do about it. i just hope this is not a precursor for Adler in her teen years. I know how bad acne sucks.

colon-blow
oh my word!! when Adler has a fart or a poop it sounds just like they exaggerate in tv and the movies when someone is accidentally overdosed with colon-blow. it is loud and totally discussing sounding. it makes me giggle every-single-time. when it comes to cleaning it up it is normally not that bad it is just the noise of the event that is so gross.

missing wedding ring
i miss my wedding ring. i miss wearing it, and feeling its heft on my hand. at about 7 months my feet started to swell up and i took the precautions of removing my wedding ring/band so just in case my hands did swell up that we did not have to have my ring cut off. unfortunately my hands are still slightly swollen and i cant put the ring back on. so it sits in the safe until i am able to slide it back on a (non-chubby) finger.

coloring
Adler has mommy's coloring. she is fair skinned and gets red very easily. she has light brown hair with golden highlights more like mommy's was when she was little. just like her older sister she has blue eyes. the jury is still out on who she looks like. i think is must be a total mash-up because i don't see defiantly me or definitely daddy.

Happy Turkey Day
This Scott family is so very blessed to have welcomed Adler into our family this month. We are also so very thankful for our ever growing little girl Rigby. we are so very thankful everyday for the blessings God has bestowed on our family.

stump-be-gone
yesterday on Adler's 1 week birthday she lost her stump. the purple end of her emblicord fell off sometime in the afternoon. since she was wearing a dress/nightgown and held by almost everyone we are not sure when or where it happend. one panty change it was there, and the next it was gone. we have looked all around to see if we can find it but no avail. daddy and i both blamed Harley, and that we think he ate it. **gross**
Adler's birth story
Alder is now a week old so it is about time i created her own site and told her full story. In the early morning hours of the 13th Harley was extremely annoying and Rigby very fussy so i was awake more than i was asleep from midnight to about 6am. I was extremely annoyed and tired. so when Rigby wanted to get up i let her. put her in the living room with cartoons on, and i crawled back into bed. i left the doors open so i could hear her, in case she needed me. after about an hour or so she did come looking for me and was asking for juice so i set her up with breakfast and again crawled back into bed. sometime in here daddy came home and continued to care for Miss Rigby and let mommy sleep. at about 8:30a there was nothing i could do about it i had to potty so i had to get up. while on the toilet i had a weird sensation, i assumed it was my water breaking but as i was already peeing it was hard to tell. it felt nothing like when my water broke for Rigby so i was unsure. again unlike Rigby i had no contractions yet. so i went ahead and made some toast and sat on the couch to eat. after about 10 mins i had my 1st contraction and told daddy it was time to go. daddy started calling auntie Avril to watch Rigby and mommy started to slowly move towards getting dressed to get out of the house. the hospital bag was already in the car. so as soon as auntie Avril showed up we were on the road. it was a Tuesday morning so we had to contend with everyday rush hour. the drive was getting hairy as the contractions were very consistent and every 5-7 mins. we did arrive at the hospital and mommy had per-registered but that did not matter we still had to wait almost 10 min in admitting as mommy screamed in pain. finally a nurse wheeled mommy up to labor and delivery. after slipping into a lovely hospital gown mommy had a check and found out that she was already 9cm dilated and past the time to receive pain killing drugs. this was the most upsetting thing i think i have EVER heard. i was so very upset i kept whining, bitching, and moaning that there had to be something to give me. no luck. my doc showed up and about 10 mins later i started pushing. i was not very good at this. the pain was so overwhelming that i could not concentrate on anything else. eventually to help relieve pain mommy got a cather and eventually got cut to help get Adler out. at 10:55a Adler Nicole Scott arrived and mommy could breath a little easier as the extreme pain was over. daddy did the honors and cut the cord and mommy got to snuggle with the new arrival as the doc did her job and sewed mommy up.
