loss

At the age of 91 God called home a great man, Charles Decker. He was a very important person to so many. I am glad to say I know him and that he got to meet and hold my girls. I know daddy is much more devastated by this news (although it is not a giant surprise, we knew his health was failing) than he will ever be able to fully express. Rest In Peace, Charles. Keep a watchful eye out over our family from your place in heaven.

costume world

so far every day this week Rigby has asked to get dressed, I agree, then she goes to her room and strips to her panties then come back out and asks me to get a costume out for her. today it is a witch. Adler is always quick to follow but the dress up does not always last so long with her. today Rigby was a witch and Adler was a pirate. to add to the costumes I busted out the tattoos. Adler got a pirate flag on her forearm and Rigby got frogs (from The Princess and the Frog) as I did not have anything else 'witch-like.'

chatty cathy

I am pretty sure Adler is a morning person. she starts the day (normally in our bed) rolling over and saying 'I need juice' or 'somefin' to eat.' it does not stop there she is talking a mile a minute from then on. she pretty much does not have much to say so she just narrates what we are doing and comments on things. how dark it is out side, what Chopper is doing, what the breakfast options are, ect.... I am not a morning person and sometimes this morning diatribe is very taxing.

out of your mouth

Adler is way past the toddler stage of putting things in her mouth to explore. now she just puts things in her mouth-I think- as an oral obsession. 90% of the time it is her thumb. we are trying to break the habit but it is not like we can just throw it away like a pacifier. now it can be anything toys, paper, clothes, ect...so we are always reminding her that only food goes in her mouth. last night the girls were playing in Rigby's room and daddy told her to take something out of her mouth. then he asked her if she was going to keep it [stuff] out of her mouth and she very plainly says "no." daddy and I both sarcastically reply "at least your honest." it was funny to us not so much the girls.

needy

Adler's new favorite phrase is "I need you." this is cute the first few times you hear it, but when she is already in your arms and just keeps saying it on repeat it gets on your nerves. there is nothing more you can do for her as she does not articulate what exactly she "needs." I know this is also part of the separation anxiety from us leaving them for a few days. she has always been kind of clingy, but now it is on super drive. funny thing is grandma and poppa said they might mention us, but they were not pining away for us while we were gone.

the mother load

Adler got a box full of shoes from mam-maw the other day. I washed them and sorted them. Most were just her size right now. I put them in her shoe drawer this morning and she saw me. I will tell you she was in heaven and spent quite a long time on the porch trying them on one then the other. this girl has a shoe PROBLEM!! :)

head tramua

oh my! I was in working on the computer and I heard a thud then a short cry and then silence. that is when I knew to get up and go find her. that silence is the calm before the storm. Adler was playing in Rigby's room and THANK GOODNESS the bed was made, because she had some how fallen and hit her forehead on the platform bed. if the quilt was not over hanging she would have wacked her head right on the edge and probably split it open and had to get stiches. it was instantly purple/red. I tried to get her to hold a cold pack on it for awhile but she could only hold it for a few seconds at a time. I did give her medicine to try to combat the headache I was sure to come. she was very needy/clingy for the rest of the day. today she is back full of piss-n-vinegar with a big yellow/green/purple egg on her forehead.

kids...so literal

this morning I was trying to encourage Adler to go potty so I told her to go "hit the frog" so she did just that. she walked over and HIT the frog potty. then turned and smiled at me and said "I hit the frog." I just laughed.

room for piggies

not sure where she picked up the habit, maybe daddy, but after you put on her socks she has to adjust the socks for toe room. so she has to place the seam so it is not resting right on her toes. she has become quite particular with this habit and will remind me until I now take this extra step for her. I cant really say much about it as I wear my socks inside out as I don't like the seam rubbing on my toes either.

sunrise wedding

we were invited to a sunrise wedding this morning. i decided to go as it was planned to be on the beach and i thought that the girls would like to go play in the sand then thought that there would be cake. how would that be a bad way to spend a morning. well it rained (poured actually.) so it was crammed into a hotel reception area. it was lousy. you could not really hear and from where we were you could not really see. so the girls were restless but since it was so noise anyway no one noticed them. after the ceremony there was cupcakes then we actually went to a local restaurant and had a good breakfast. the girls had pancakes and they were delish but talk about a sugar high after all that!!

no one is safe

Adler has conquered the door nob, for the most part. sometimes she has troubles and it can take 10 tries but she eventually cracks it. especially if Rigby is trying to potty by herself. something about that drives Adler over the edge and will try and try and try to open the door. if it unsuccessful she will knock, loudly. if that also gets no response and the door still wont open she has been known to lay down butt against the door and kick with both legs making as much noise as she possibly can. ugh!!!

don't work

Adler has taken to screaming "don't work, don't work" every time i go in the den/her room. i did not really understand what she was saying the first time. now that i have deciphered her message and that she does not want me to sit at the computer it makes me feel horrible. i have to continue to look for a job because that savings account is dropping rapidly. i cant really do it at nap time or after she goes to be as the computer is in her room. ugh!!!

man van

so at the Unity in the Community event (see Rigby's blog) there was a Man Van that usually travels around to do 30 minute check ups. at the event they were actually doing wellness checks. we skipped these while we were at the event in the morning but as we talked about it on our way home we thought it would be a good idea to get it done. daddy had to do some work so if he got home in time we planned on heading back to the event. we got back at about 3:30p they were tearing down most of the booths and almost all the give always were gone, but the man van was still there recruiting people to do wellness checks. we filled out a bunch of paperwork then got weighted and measured then they drew about 8 vials of blood. mommy and daddy both did it. Adler had to sit on our laps when we were getting blood drawn and asked about a dozen times if it hurt. with me she had her nose almost an inch away from the needle and was SO VERY interested. when i was finishing up i asked her if she wanted to be next. she nodded her head and suck out her arm. what a brave and intrigued little girl. maybe she will want a job in the health care field!?!?!?!?!?
