appetite waning

Adler must be caught up at least for the time being. She was eating everything and 2-3 helpings of things. now she has slowed down and actually eats very little. I guess she is over that growth spurt and just maintaining. I run out of ideas on what to feed her. she does better than her sister on eating what daddy and i eat. she is going like a weed and she will let you know if she is hungry/thirst so just going with the flow right now.

no pictures

i meant to post a picture today of Adler's boo-boos but i forgot the camera at home. the ones i took last night were not the best as they were right at dinner time so the ketchup on her face and snot out of her nose only added to the "pushed down a flight of stairs" look. ugh. her eye was a little swollen last night so we took a hit of Tylenol before bed. the boo-boo does not seem to bother her so it is just another day in her book even if she looks like she lost a "battle with the demon."

called to school

i had just dropped the girls off at school, gotten to the office, and put my pocketbook away when i got a call. they called and told me that Adler had tripped or fallen and had cut her face and that i needed to come and assess the situation. my heart fell, but i was out the door in 2 seconds flat. i get there and she had already stopped crying, till she saw me that is. she had an adult thumb nail size (and shape) cut on her face between her nose and eyebrow. the cut must have happened at an upward angle because the flap of skin was covering the cut. it did break the skin, but i don't believe it even bled a drop. there is also a bump on her nose that was already starting to turn purple. because of the spot we could not really put a band aid on it, or even neosporin because it would be too likely to wipe into her eye. so basically did nothing. i only worry because it is an open wound and she has already gotten CA-MERSA from there once, is it going to happen again!?!?!?! UGH, UGH, UGH!!!!

knows what she wants

Adler defiantly knows what she wants. it has been days since she had a bottle but yesterday and again this morning she has a mild cold/snotty nose and she very specifically goes around screaming "ba-ba" which is what i call a bottle. I can try other things but she is never pacified till she gets her "ba-ba." we are down to using it only for comfort when she is not feeling well or is going through a spurt of not eating much.

stingy

Adler has gotten very stingy with her kisses these days. i think she thinks it is funny. you use to be able to ask for a kiss and get a dozen in return, albeit very wet ones. now i have to steal them and even then she is catching on to my game. some reason daddy is not on the shortage list and is able to worm some out of her after bath time....then he likes to brag about it. errrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

laughs at her own jokes

Adler's personality is really shining though. she loves to laugh at her own jokes, like when she teases you with a toy, or crawls up into your chair when you get up, or playing peek-a-boo. i love hearing that laugh and that fact that although it is not really funny to us she thinks it is hilarious. i love that idea of humor blooming in her. Adler, I hope and pray that you always keep that sense of humor and never take yourself too serious.

stinky pillow - #2

Grandma noticed when she was here over Christmas break that Adler liked to rub her face on one of Rigby's extra satin pillows. Since Rigby is only preferential to that original stinky pillow i absconded one of the other pillows that Aunt Bonnie made her. in the beginning i was able to throw the pillow in the crib to help get Adler to sleep then remove it once she fell asleep. i still don't like anything in the crib with her, but i guess Adler learned my trick. She now lays her body and head on the pillow so there is no way for me to remove it without waking her up. so she gets her way and sleeps with it all night. best part is that i think the pillow helped us almost instantaneously ween her from having to be put to sleep in the swing. YEA!! not getting rid of the swing just yet, but we almost never use it now.

little helper

Adler has become quite the little helper. she likes to close drawers, refrigerators, dishwashers, ect... she likes to throw things in the trash. she can do simple tasks when instructed. after every meal i have her help push her high chair back into its place. she always has this very accomplished look on her face, so super-d-duper cute!!

exhibitionist

Adler has taken to taking off her shirt. She sometimes get it off and just starts running around the house. sometimes she gets her arms out the neck hole then starts screaming as that is not what she wanted and now she is stuck. I have not gotten any reports from school yet that she has done this trick for them yet.

home sick

Got the call from the school late yesterday that Adler had a 102 temperature. We have been administering Motrin. i am betting it is an ear ache. i don't know how it survived after all the antibiotics that she has had recently. 2 shots and 10 days of oral antibiotics - that is a lot of drugs. ugh. So she is home with daddy snuggling in her thermal jammies and getting lots of extra love and regular doses of Motrin/Tylenol mix. it is Friday so if she is going to get sick today is the day...she ALWAYS has problems/symptoms on a Friday. :(

Where's Adler?!?!?!?

Adler is really into peek-a-boo lately. she loves to come in the bathroom while i am getting ready and hide behind the shower curtain. Rigby or I or both with ask "Where's Adler?" and she lets you call out for a while before she whips the curtain back and comes out smiling. my FAVORITE is when she really things she is getting one over on you and we are calling out "where's Adler?" over and over and over and she just stands there and giggles and does not unveil herself. laughing at her own joke, my daughter!!! love her.

hipster

Adler loves the glasses from the Potato Head collection we have. Last couple times we have gotten them out to play she gets both sets of glasses and puts them on her neck. i assume that is because they don't fit her face. last night she had one set facing forward and another one facing back wards. she is so funny, she LOVES her accessories.

mullet

finally Miss Adler's hair is starting to grow. she has a little more than peach fuzz now. it is super thin and fine but it is getting longer. When she was little she was born with some (not much) hair and only the top fell out. so she was left with the horseshoe around her head. that horseshoe of hair is now 2 inches or so and now has started to curl in the back. so she is business on top and party in the rear. :) we are not cutting it till there is something really there to cut.

found it

Adler has found her belly button and loves to show it off. she whips up her shirt and starts pointing to it and can almost say belly. sounds more like "b-ll-e." she likes to lift up your shirt and find your belly button too.

bad news

got the call last night on the way home that the culture from Adler's ouchy is MERSA. the nurse relaying the info to me did not seem all that bothered by it. like she was telling me the sky was blue. ugh. our only directive was to continue with the provided antibiotics then follow up with our pediatrician. ugh. i hope with all the antibiotics that she has gotten in the past few days has fought off that MERSA and we don't have to deal with that. ugh, ugh, ugh!!!!!!!!

ouchy update

Adler's ouchy is looking much better this morning. she still had a cotton ball sized lump that was hard the other day and the doc said to just keep applying heat. that is harder said than done. we have tried wet wash cloths in a baggie and heating pad. they are both bulky and she wont stay longer than a minute or two. the doc said to do 15 minutes at a time obviously forgot we were talking about a one year old. so we had the idea to get hand warmers that are small and we can tape on her arm. so yesterday daddy went and got hand warmers and we used and ace bandage. it worked and she did not even mind it being on. it also greatly reduced the lump in her arm. we also left all dressings off it last night to dry out in her sleep. today there is redness but no tenderness. there is a much smaller hard lump so we will have to do the heat thing again tonight. we are still waiting to hear about the culture i will have to follow up on that today. otherwise she is still taking the antibiotics but phasing out the Motrin as there is no real swelling.

baskets and pocket books

Adler likes to carry baskets, ice cream buckets, pocket books, just about anything that she can shove other things in. the funniest to me is that she carries her basket/pocketbook on her forearm - same as mommy. awe!!!!

climbing her way to the top

Adler has hit that stage where she has to climb on everything. she is pretty good at it too. it is a little more difficult now with one hand bandaged up but she still puts forth a valiant effort. if she knows she cant climb up on something like the queen bed in Rigby's room she puts both hands up and hikes up a knee and starts pounding on it and leaning into it. she is very good at conveying what she means without having to say a word.

Medical Bills to Ring in the New Year

So this is a long story...starting Friday morning. Adler woke up and had what looked like a zit/pimple on her wrist. Right where her palm meets her forearm. She also had two more zits/pimples on her cheek and forehead. I thought they were all zits as that is where her hand/fingers rest when she sucks her thumb. So i tried squeezing on the one on her arm. She cried but I thought that was because i was squeezing on it. I sent her to school, told her teacher about it and said to wash and keep clean as much as possible. end of day Friday the ouchy still red and no better. Called after hours doc and said i did not know if it was a zit or bug bite but it was red and inflamed. doc said to use benadryl and Motrin. Saturday morning the doc called to see how Adler was doing and i confessed that the arm was no better and the drugs did not seem to help at all. So we went in 1st thing in the morning. Doc said that the ouchy was inflamed and she was glad i had brought her in. She also found that Adler had an ear ache. We got drugs and told to use Motrin to keep swelling down. I think the meds must taste bad/bitter as it is kind of hard to get Adler to take them. Saturday night/Sunday morning Adler and I were up giving her a second dose of medicine and she proceeded to yak that up then throw-up her dinner and maybe some of her lunch. it was GROSS. poor baby did not get much sleep that night. We stayed on the couch for the most part and she slept on my chest. 6am Sunday i got another dose of medicine in her. 11am we got another dose of Motrin in her. her arm seemed to be getting progressively redder and the ouchy more pronounced. So i called the doc. Doc said if there was no improvement and now with the development of a fever (at home 100.4) to go to urgent care. At Urgent care fever was found to be 102. She had then started getting the chills. she was diagnosed with an abscess. they gave her Tylenol with codeine and left us alone so she could calm down and give time for the medicine to work. while i was holding her on my chest waiting for the meds to kick in she had the abscess between me and her. So it was warmed to body heat so by the time they made the 1st incision it was almost purple and the size of a shooter marble. then the worst part was i had to hold Adler down with the help of a nurse while they lanced the abscess and drained it. they cultured the first drainage and then made a second incision as they said the abscess had already started to compartmentalize trying to fight off the infection. this is natural and what the body is suppose to do. this second incision made me gag and yell. another nurse came in to see if i was alright and going to pass out. i was not going to pass out...maybe throw up but not pass out. they squeezed till they got down to just blood then wrapped it up. she was given a shot of antibiotics and we had to wait another 20 minutes before leaving so they could see if there was any reaction from the antibiotics. we were told to continue on the oral antibiotic and Motrin that our original doc had given and to follow up with the doc in the morning. I just got a call from Jason they are heading home now. they had to open up the abscess again and squeeze/drain more yuck out of it. she got another shot of antibiotic and sent on her way. she did not have a fever so that is a good sign. so now we just have to keep it clean and dry till we get the culture back to see what it was. Right now the thing they are trying to avoid and why she is getting so many shots and oral doses of antibiotics is that they are trying to avoid MERSA. ugh. So our girl is going better but has had a traumatic couple of days.

'mote

Adler has a thing for remote controls. so to help elevate the problem of her getting the 'real' remote and pushing all the buttons we had an extra around the house that did not work. so took out the batteries and now she has her very own. she is elated when she carries it around, like she is carrying pure power. she also likes to use it to pound on the coffee table. she is still a sneaky devil and worms her way and gets the real remotes all the time too. she seems to know when she has the real remotes as she sits and pushes all the buttons at once trying to seem to get it to do something and she normally does too. before we got the new cable box there was a series called Animal Exploration (or something like that)that neither daddy nor i recorded but every week it would show up in the DVR box to watch. My only conclusion is that Adler must have done it.

theif

As i was dropping Adler off at class this morning i made sure to tell the teacher that i brought extra treats because this girl has been eating us out of house and home lately. teacher jokingly said she did not want to rat out Adler but....she has been known to steal the other kids food and eat it all. ha ha ha. daddy says she better grow a foot this month or she is going to be 200 lbs the way she is shoveling the food in.
