piss-n-vinegar

Well it is for sure that Adler is feeling better. This morning she was standing on the chair and would look at me with a devilish grin on her face and just laugh. or she would come up behind Rigby and (for no reason) grab two handfuls of hair and yank. or shimmy between the two couches were you see nothing but her eyes glitter as she looks back at you, because she knows she is not suppose to be back there. she was pushing her limits and cruisin' for a bruisin' this morning. i wished her teachers luck as i dropped her off.

words

Adler has the following works in her vocabulary: momma, da-da, apple, uh-oh, buh-bye, hi, silly, and pup/puf (puppy) i think those those are the most common and easily understandable. there might be a few more that she has said a few times...and i just cant remember.

missing

on Sunday Alder had gotten up at 5am. So at 11-ish she started just sitting in the rocking chair with the glazed over look on her face i knew that nap-time was coming up soon. I got sidetracked doing something else and realized she was no longer in the chair and was not playing with Rigby so i went looking for her. she was in Rigby's converter bed. It is low enough for her to crawl in and out of. the day before i had laid her down in it so i could lay down too. i am fighting a cold and just am exhausted so Rigby was watching a program Adler and i snuck in a quick nap. So Sunday Adler just toddled off and crawled in the bed and dozed off.

eye update

So here is the update...which i am sure most of you saw/read on facebook. Adler had a red area on her eye Wednesday/Thursday. By Friday it was swollen she went to our regular pediatrician and was told it was a bug bite and got oral antibiotics. Saturday the eye was much more puffy so i went to a different doctor in the pediatric group. this time it was still determined a bug bite and given an eye drop to add to the oral antibiotic. Sunday still swollen but did go down a little shortly after the eye drop but no real market improvement. same stats for Monday and Tuesday as Sunday. at this point it has been 5 days on antibiotic and eye drop cocktail and still no true improvement. i was never convinced it was a bug bite but what do i know. so we went back to our pediatrician and she was leaving at lunch and i need an afternoon appointment so i saw another doctor in that office. THANKFULLY. as he diagnosed Adler with a Chalaizion. this is an infection, possibly staff infection of the eyelid. he actually flipped up the lid and looked (showed me as well) there was a white blister like formation on her eyelid. the medicines she was on were not hurting but they were not actually attacking the problem. so she was given a new antibiotic a new eye drop that has a steroid in it and as a side note a new cream for her horrible diaper rash that had developed at the same time as this 'bug bite' incident. so did not get the meds all picked up till after work yesterday. her diaper rash that has turned into a yeast infection is i would say 5% better after one treatment. I lubed her up and sent the medicated ointment to school with her. her eye is holding steady. that in itself i would call an improvement. she did have some blood tinged discharge last night. i was kind of freaking out but when we tried looking under the lid the blister-like sack was no longer visible so maybe the drugs or hot compresses that daddy was applying were working. since she was up in the middle of the night i went ahead and gave her a dose of eye drops then too. so we are doing well to stick to the schedule. i think the eye drops burn or hurt as she puts up a hell of a fight. so this morning i had to wait till i got to school so the teacher could hold her and i could put the meds in. she actually did much better. so maybe it is working or she is getting use to it. i am just thankful that she is finally making some progress in the right direction. we are in month two of 2014 and she has been to the doctor, clinic, or urgent care at minimum 6 times. not sure if i am remembering all the visits. we can NOT keep up this pace. please say an extra prayer for her to keep her HEALTHY for the rest of 2014 and beyond.

mommy diet

i have recently started a new diet. it is the Adler-has-to-sit-on-mommy's-lap-while-trying-to-eat diet. this weekend no matter what i was eating she would have to get up on my lap and have some too. i know i have created an absolute monster here. if i dont pick her up she stands at my side and cries and cries till the tears are pouring down her face and she has snot bubbles. ugh.

one eyed monster

we got up on Saturday and Adler's eye was swollen shut. finally at about 10a we made it to a doctor. we drove around and went to a couple other doctor offices and even a pediatric urgent care but they were all closed. errrrrr. doctor thinks since the swelling is localized to her eye lid that it is either a sty or a bug bite. she is taking an antibiotic and now has the addition of eye drops. since it is very loose tissue that is why when she sleeps and is not using the eye, blinking and such, it puffs up. so the more she is awake and using the lid the swelling does go down. it does not look normal by any means and is still really red. as long as the swelling is localized to just the lid and she does not spike a fever we are just to continue what we are doing. if the swelling is above or below the eye or gets a fever then that is a trip to the ER.

eye troubles

Adler has had a pink tinge to her left eyelid for a few days. today it was swollen when she got up. so instead of risk it I called the doc. she is also snotty and had a cough. she was also due to go on the 18th for annual shots so we were hoping to get it all checked off at once. doctor thinks that the pink/swelling on her eye was due to the bug bites on her face. bad part is that i did not know she had bug bites. she has had a few red bumps that have shown up on and off over the last few day. so now i am horrified that she is getting bitten by bugs while she sleeps. makes me want to toss my cookies thinking about things crawling on her face while she slumbers. OMG!!!!! so she is to take Benadryl and doc also prescribed an antibiotic for 10 days but we don’t have to use that long it issues clear up. she did get her shots and one is likely to develop a rash for 24 hours. she is 32 inches tall and 90th percentile of kids her age. she is 21 lbs and only 50th percentile of her age. so even with her Buddha belly she is not over weight.

the floor is lava

when you are holding Adler and go to put her down if she does not want to be put down she will lift her legs. she will bend, curl, or lift them depending on how low you place her. it absolutely cracks me up. she will do anything to fight being put down.

silly

We tell Rigby she is silly, or silly goose, or silly billy, or goofy all the time. she now says that back to me. yesterday in the car we the two of us were carrying on about being 'silly' and Adler chimed in and she started saying silly too. after she would say it she would just smile and laugh she knew she was getting in on the game and was so very pleased with herself.

no posts

i have been super busy at work and have not had much time to post lately.

on the floor

Adler has always been quite a drama queen. now we have hit new levels if she does not get something she wants she will 'melt' down to the ground and lay there and scream and wail. i normally just let her wail and leave her on the ground. eventually she will get over it. thankfully this has only happen at home and not in public yet. hopefully the 'non-reaction' will work so she wont try it in public.

daddy's little girl

Adler is totally enamored with daddy these days. she talks about him all the time. when she sees him she runs to him. if she knows he is outside and she is stuck inside she runs to the door and cries. she still wants her momma for late night snuggles so i am ok with this turn of events.

tickle spots

I think Adler might be ticklish everywhere. i have not found a tickle spot yet that does not make her throw her head back and laugh. i love it and take advantage of it all the time. i love hearing that joy-filled laugh. some of my favorite spots that instantly make her fall into fits of laughter are on her chest right under her chin, upper thighs, and her piggy toes.

dosing them

See Rigby's blog for her drama for the day. Alder was just fussy. she was not really indicating that anything was wrong, and she might have only been mimicking or mocking her sister for crying but she was caterwauling right along with her. so by the time bath time was over daddy and i were both pulling our hair out. so i did it. i dosed them. i gave a little bit of benadryl to each of them and sent them off to bed. i think they both needed the sleep but since that is about 30-60 minutes before normal bedtime i think they needed help going to sleep and really getting into a deep slumber. i have spoken to our pediatrician before about dosing them for a trip/flight. She said it was fine and would not hurt them and had no lasting effects. so although about a 1/2 hour after doing it i really did feel guilty about doing it i knew they ultimately needed that deep relaxing sleep. today both girls woke in a markedly improved moods.

run away

Adler is to the stage that it is funny to run away. no matter what you are trying to do if you want her to come to you she runs the other direction. normally straight to the back door. i guess that is the farthest point in the house to her. then after you chase her to that door she just stands there and laughs. you reach out and she falls into your arms. game over she had her fun and now wants your lovin', but watch out as soon as you put her down she might take off running again and laughing the whole time.
