hand me downs

Adler is a lucky little girl, in more than one way, but one is that she is the recipient of all of her cousin Ellie's hand me downs. they are just far enough apart in age that just when Ellie is growing out of onesies and sleepers that Auntie Allison is able to mail them down here for Adler to grow into. This will be lovely if these girls both keep to growing at the same rates. Thanks for the recent package of sleepers we needed them. :)

what's up doc?

Adler had her two month check up today. daddy took her so i just got the call that they were out of the office. she weighed 12 lbs 12 oz and was 24 inches long. she was among the 78th percentile of height and 60th percentile of weight. she had 4 shots and an oral injection. she did pretty well daddy said. there are a few things the doctor is watching for but is not overly concerned about. Adler goes back in two months for her 4 month check up and i am sure there is probably another round of shots. all and all a good check up and growing like she should.

standing tall

Alder is very strong. if you hold her in an upright position she can stand for long periods of time. you do have to hold on to her as she looks like Elvis wiggling her hips and every once and a while she blows a knee but for the most part she will just stand and dance for ya.

look out on the loveseat

well in a weird coincidence Adler has now "got" two of her grandparents on the loveseat. first was grandpa Robertson around xmas time. papa was holding Adler and when it was time for dinner and we were doing the baby trade off we noticed that not only was Adler but papa was covered in poo. again this weekend grandma Scott was holding Adler on the same couch in almost the same area when she was shifting positions for Adler and noticed that both Adler and mam-maw were covered in poo. when this happens Adler gets a bath immediately and the grandparents require clothing changes ASAP as well.

new clothes

we had to get out the size 3-6 month sleepers as Adler has grown out of the newborns and now most of the 0-3 month outfits. her legs are getting long and her feet are so super big that the smaller outfits make her toes constantly curled. so we have retired some and got some new ones out. Now some of the newer ones are still too big and she is swimming in them but that is better than no having enough room to breath. some of the outfits i had in storage were given to Rigby as presents and she never got to wear them as they were too small for at the time they were given. So i am happy to see them get used.

touch down

Adler is now sleeping with her arms up out of her blankets bent at the elbows. she looks like she is signaling a touch down.

manicurist needed

Miss Adler is now flailing her arms both when she is awake and in her sleep. i think she does it when she is looking for her thumb to suck on. the down side to this is she keeps scratching her face, big cuts too. ugh!!!

buggy best

Adler has made a friend. it is a little pink lighting bug that has crinkle wings and if pushed on the tummy it's cheeks light up and she plays a song. it was one of Rigby's favorite toys too. Adler will crinkle and chat it up with the bug when she is sitting in her chair. she likes to chew on the antenna's too. Adler is becoming more and more interactive with her environment, my little baby is growing up.

hole in the head

every baby has a soft spot, but since Adler has nothing but peach fuzz on top of her head the soft spot is prevalent and is kind of creepy when you can see her heart beat make the skin on her head pulse. i never experienced this with Rigby because she was born a shaggy dog and never did loose her hair. on Adler you can very clearly see the different sections of the skull and where they are butted up against each other but not yet fused together.

thumbs up

Adler is going to be a thumb sucker. we tried a passy and sometimes she will take it, now more than she did when she was younger. it took us three different shapes to find one that she kind of likes, but more and more these days she is sucking on her hand, and now that she has found her thumb she has that shoved in her face slurping away. this is good in the fact that she found something to help her self sooth, the bad part is that we cant take her thumb away when it is time to break the habit.

going for distance

at this mornings 3:30a feeding Adler guzzled her milk. then mommy patted/rubbed her back and we got a nice big burp. i was getting up out of the master bed to take her back to her room and she projectile vomited on mommy, on her, on the dresser, and the floor. she was not upset by this but i swear she much have emptied her entire stomach contents as there was a lot of milk everywhere. the one good thing about it is that it is breast milk it does not stain or smell, like formula did when Rigby would vomit. a half an hour later everyone was cleaned up and a boob offered again to Adler because i did not think there was anything left in her. she ate for a few minutes and became less interested so i took her back to bed. by this time she was not really tired but laid her down. she cooed a little, but never did fuss and eventually went back to sleep till about 7a when we got up and ate.

schedule off

Daddy was working on building the neighbor's deck so both Rigby and Adler were being watched by Savannah and Sean (the college kids of the house.) I am sure they did a fine job as the girls were both all in one piece when i got home. Adler's feeding schedule was off though. I had to get up almost ever hour and half to feed her. that is from beginning of feeding to beginning of feeding so take into account the feeding time and time to change a diaper and there is not much time for mommy to sleep. ugh, ugh, ugh. Hoping we can get the schedule reset today and mommy can get more than a few minutes at a time sleep tonight.

look who's talking

Alder is really starting to coo and babble. it is so very cute. she gets oh so animated and swinging her arms and pumping her legs when she is telling a story. I encourage her and ask follow up questions all the time. I also am trying to encourage Rigby to talk to her, but so far Rigby will talk about Adler but not too her.

all smiles

Adler's smile now is reactionary not just a reflex. i love knowing that fact as she seems to smile a lot and i like knowing it is not merely just gas. she smiles a lot for mommy in the mornings after waking up and getting dressed and having that morning milk. i tickle her cheeks and she just keeps grinning and grinning, it just melts my heart.

upright

daddy got Adler a chair toy. It is like a bumbo with a 365 degree tray with some toys on it. she is not really interested in the toys yet, but we can sit her in it and she will hold her head up for the most part. the reason i like this chair is that there is no pressure on her noggin' so we should not have to buy another helmet this time, fingers crossed. She is spending more time in it as she is awake more, and a parent can only hold a baby so much before you have to figure out something to do with her. She also has tummy time, but she still pretty much hates it.

hiccup

both of my girls must have under developed diaphragms as infants they both would get the hiccups all the time. poor Adler will sometimes have them for a better part of 30 mins. i know it is not suppose to bother the baby but i don't know how it couldn't since if i ever get them they are so absolutely pain in the butt. I try rubbing her belly and peek-a-boo but that does not work. the only thing that works is giving her a boob but that is only if she is hungry otherwise we just have to wait them out.

delay in the post

Today Adler is 7 weeks old. i cant give you exact facts and figures but she is defiantly gotten bigger and put on weight. she has pretty much out grown all of her newborn clothes and is into 0-3 month outfits. Don't worry about the clothes they are all going to a good home. They will be going to Alder's best friend (Dash's little sister, Brecken.) Brecken was born almost 10 weeks premature so it will be some time before she can fit into Adler's hand me downs but we save them all and set them aside for when Brecken does comes home. I now that i am back to work i have to really start planning better for Tuesday picture day. So there will be a 7 wk old picture post but it might be tonight or tomorrow - stay tuned.

wolverine

OMG. Alder has razor blades on the ends of her fingers. wow. her finger nails are paper thin but oh so sharp. i experience them mostly on my boobs which is tender flesh to start with then you drag five razor blades across them i want to pee my pants. i do clip them, but i cant ever get them close enough to make them stop hurting, that and they grow back so freaking quickly.

hard work

we were worried about Adler there for a few days as she went 4 days without a poop. as much as she drinks you would think that would be almost impossible, but she was very fussy and very little gas so it was all bottled up inside. on day five we did get a poop then yesterday there were three giant poops on daddy's shift and one on mommy's watch. so 4 poops must really tucker you out as Adler did not spend much time awake yesterday. I guess i would be tired too if i had 4 poops that seem to expend as much energy as she does to expel them. ha.

daddy's little girl

well the first day daddy was home with home alone with both girls went well. daddy reported no problems. we are tracking her eating/sleeping habits to try to settle more into a schedule as before mommy had to go back to work mommy could whip out a boob and feed almost anytime but now we are on 1/2 bottle and 1/2 boob, all breast milk currently.

Happy New Year

i was ringing in the new year with my boobs out, hair up, music on and the only one to kiss in a house full of people was Miss Adler Nicole. she had spent almost all day awake and most the night as well. she was not really fussy, but not going to sleep either. so it was well after midnight before she went down for a hard sleep and mommy finally got some shut eye.
