Medical Bills to Ring in the New Year
So this is a long story...starting Friday morning. Adler woke up and had what looked like a zit/pimple on her wrist. Right where her palm meets her forearm. She also had two more zits/pimples on her cheek and forehead. I thought they were all zits as that is where her hand/fingers rest when she sucks her thumb. So i tried squeezing on the one on her arm. She cried but I thought that was because i was squeezing on it. I sent her to school, told her teacher about it and said to wash and keep clean as much as possible. end of day Friday the ouchy still red and no better. Called after hours doc and said i did not know if it was a zit or bug bite but it was red and inflamed. doc said to use benadryl and Motrin. Saturday morning the doc called to see how Adler was doing and i confessed that the arm was no better and the drugs did not seem to help at all. So we went in 1st thing in the morning. Doc said that the ouchy was inflamed and she was glad i had brought her in. She also found that Adler had an ear ache. We got drugs and told to use Motrin to keep swelling down. I think the meds must taste bad/bitter as it is kind of hard to get Adler to take them. Saturday night/Sunday morning Adler and I were up giving her a second dose of medicine and she proceeded to yak that up then throw-up her dinner and maybe some of her lunch. it was GROSS. poor baby did not get much sleep that night. We stayed on the couch for the most part and she slept on my chest. 6am Sunday i got another dose of medicine in her. 11am we got another dose of Motrin in her. her arm seemed to be getting progressively redder and the ouchy more pronounced. So i called the doc. Doc said if there was no improvement and now with the development of a fever (at home 100.4) to go to urgent care. At Urgent care fever was found to be 102. She had then started getting the chills. she was diagnosed with an abscess. they gave her Tylenol with codeine and left us alone so she could calm down and give time for the medicine to work. while i was holding her on my chest waiting for the meds to kick in she had the abscess between me and her. So it was warmed to body heat so by the time they made the 1st incision it was almost purple and the size of a shooter marble. then the worst part was i had to hold Adler down with the help of a nurse while they lanced the abscess and drained it. they cultured the first drainage and then made a second incision as they said the abscess had already started to compartmentalize trying to fight off the infection. this is natural and what the body is suppose to do. this second incision made me gag and yell. another nurse came in to see if i was alright and going to pass out. i was not going to pass out...maybe throw up but not pass out. they squeezed till they got down to just blood then wrapped it up. she was given a shot of antibiotics and we had to wait another 20 minutes before leaving so they could see if there was any reaction from the antibiotics. we were told to continue on the oral antibiotic and Motrin that our original doc had given and to follow up with the doc in the morning. I just got a call from Jason they are heading home now. they had to open up the abscess again and squeeze/drain more yuck out of it. she got another shot of antibiotic and sent on her way. she did not have a fever so that is a good sign. so now we just have to keep it clean and dry till we get the culture back to see what it was. Right now the thing they are trying to avoid and why she is getting so many shots and oral doses of antibiotics is that they are trying to avoid MERSA. ugh. So our girl is going better but has had a traumatic couple of days.
